Red wine on silk: the first ten minutes.
A blotted stain is a manageable one. What to do, and not do, in the first ten minutes after wine meets silk, before it ever reaches us.

The first ten minutes after wine meets silk matter more than almost anything that happens afterwards, including the professional clean. What you do in that window decides how much of the stain is still there to treat.
The instinct to rub is the one to resist. Rubbing pushes the wine deeper into the weave and spreads it outward, turning a small mark into a larger, fainter one that is genuinely harder to fully remove. Blotting – pressing a clean, dry cloth straight down onto the stain and lifting it away, repeated with a fresh section of cloth each time – draws liquid out rather than pushing it further in.
Cold water can help lift the surface liquid if you are somewhere you can rinse the back of the fabric, but only the back, and only briefly. Do not apply salt, soda water, or any of the well-meaning home remedies people reach for at a dinner table – most of them do little for silk specifically, and some, like salt, can leave their own residue that complicates a professional clean later.
Heat is the real enemy here, more than the wine itself. Do not use a hairdryer, do not iron it, and do not tumble dry anything with a wine stain, even a faint one – heat sets tannin stains permanently in a way that makes them far harder to remove afterwards, sometimes impossible.
Once you can get it to us, tell us roughly how old the stain is and what, if anything, was already tried at home. That single piece of information changes which treatment we reach for first, and an early, gently blotted stain is one of the more straightforward things we see.
Send it to us. It comes back clean, reshaped and ready to wear.
